Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Cincinnati Affiliate

Dear Komen Supporter:

By now you may have heard about the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure® decision to halt funding to organizations currently under federal investigation. We appreciate the outpouring of concern from our Race participants and financial donors. This resolution was made on a national level and we are not a part of these overarching decisions.

We would like to address concerns regarding women in our Greater Cincinnati service area receiving life-saving education and screening services.

The Greater Cincinnati Affiliate prides itself on evidence and outcomes based programming reaching uninsured and underserved women in our neediest communities. This has been our focus since our inception in 1997. We address barriers to health care and our programs increase access to screening and education initiatives. Our current grantees are chosen by an independent committee of volunteers from various backgrounds. Planned Parenthood is not a current grantee of the Affiliate and no funding for these vital services in the Greater Cincinnati area has been halted as a result of this national decision. We continue to fund more than a dozen life-saving programs in 21 counties that provide the highest level of service to uninsured and underserved women of our community. For a full list of our programs for fiscal year 2011-2012, CLICK HERE.

Seventy-five percent of our revenue supports programs in the local community where our Race participants and financila donors live and work. The remaining 25% supports innovative breast cancer research bringing us closer to the cure. Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has been a part of every major advance in the treatment of breast cancer since 1982.

Susan G. Komen Greater Cincinnati remains committed to our mission to end breast cancer forever. We value the support of our Race participants and financial donors who make our work possible. It is because of your passion that we are able to make a difference. We hope that you will continue to partner with our Komen Affiliate to save lives and end breast cancer forever.

With grateful appreciation,

Peggy Isenogle Executive Director

suzy and nancyThe Power of a Promise
Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded on a promise between two sisters. Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested over $1.9 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

Our Passion
Because 10 million women around the world could die from breast cancer in the next 25 years without the cure, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is fighting every minute of every day to save every life.

Our People
The more than 100,000 survivors and activists of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® are the face and voice of the global breast cancer movement - local activists and global citizens who mobilize millions through events like the Komen Race for the Cure Series, the world's largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer.

Our Work
With over $1.9 billion invested to date, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the world's largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to curing breast cancer at every state - from the causes, to the cures, to the pain and anxiety of every moment in between.

Our Success
Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer over the past 28 years - transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease and helping to turn million of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors.
